  1. Do you have a union you can talk to? I don't know about the legalities of it at all, but it seems like a really horrible thing to have to do. If everyone refused together, you wouldn't have to worry?
  2. You can do an install with an external hard drive. If it's a PPC mac, then you may need a firewire drive, otherwise a USB one will be fine. What are you trying to do? Copy Leopard onto a hard drive and run the setup off that? That will work fine - you have to hold something down at boot to boot from the USB drive. I can't remember what it is, so you'll have to google that. You might also have to make a partition on the external drive in the Apple file system, and extract the DVD iso onto that. I'm not sure - google for more information.
  3. Yes. You are really sticking it to the man with this stunt. If I were you I would just give up, it doesn't really sound like you're going to achieve much besides a suspension. CONFORM FOR THE W|I|N.

    Blimey Fruitbat! Nice one
  5. Sometimes if you have a posh 3g phone you can tether that to the laptop and just use the 3g via that. Saves buying a dongle and if you're already on contract, an unlimited data plan might be cheaper than having a separate 3g dongle contract. The other thing is - check where you're going and whether there is actually 3g coverage (which will vary depending on what network you go with). Whilst these things are pretty decent in areas with 3g coverage, when signal gets shaky they're next to useless.
  6. Does everyone have a Youtube account then? I'm sure I watch my fair share of Youtube videos but I don't have an account, what's the point (besides uploading, obviously, but not everyone has uploaded stuff)?
  7. I would try it before you launch into spending loads of money. I've snowboarded for quite a bit, and a lot of people compare surfing to riding in fresh powder on a snowboard. So I thought I should try surfing, and I was expecting to love it. I did a week (in Morocco) a couple of years ago and it was OK, but I didn't love it at all. Perhaps I didn't get good enough to really enjoy it, or perhaps if you can already snowboard well then learning another boardsport from the beginning might seem boring. I might go again one day, but I'm not too fussed really.
  8. My girlfriend used to have a car that vibrated at certain engine RPMs. I think the whole car had a resonant frequency at around 2200 rpm (± 50 or so) - so the car would vibrate on the motorway, but only at very specific speeds. Really irritating but once we figured out what it was, you could try and avoid that rev range. This doesn't really sound like your problem, but it could be? Does the vibration only occur at certain revs?
  9. ...and you'd have to wait half an hour for each clip because broadband wasn't invented. Brant now works for CRC... He pissed me around quite a lot, so I don't really like the guy - I don't remember exactly what happened though. Apparently he's into his single-speed mid-life-crisis bikes now.
  10. Veg oil is pretty thick though. I'm pretty interested in the outcome of this emulsion, but I don't really think it's going to revolutionise anything. Unless you're going to do a bath bleed or you can't get any mineral oil, I would probably just go with some proper mineral oil intended for brakes. Apparently Shimano mineral oil is thinner than the Magura stuff stuff, cheaper too.
  11. Er, right. No one is forcing you to freecycle anything, you know? I think it's a good idea.

So you won't go to hospital because you don't like foreigners? That makes me chuckle a bit, it's your loss anyway - whatever you think of foreign people, it's not like you're winning some moral victory by staying at home in pain. P.s. You would be completely stupid NOT to go to the hospital. I don't know what you've done to your thumb, and nor does anyone else on here. The last thing you want is a constantly painful thumb that you can't use properly, just because you were too proud to go back to the hospital.

That really should go without saying. How did you fall out with the receptionist anyway?!
  14. Do they have any elastomers in them? Or are they just coil? They should have some form of rebound damping in them, but without knowing what it is, it's hard to say. Do they have oil in them? If so you could try different volumes or use a heavier weight oil. There might be a top-out bumper somewhere too, I don't know how advanced they are?! To be honest though, I'm guessing they were pretty cheap - a bit of top-out isn't the end of the world.
  15. Ha yeah. I lusted over a Brisa for months, then I actually rode one and it felt really strange, sluggish like you say. Not a patch on the old Zebdi (now that was a bike).
  16. I suppose that keeping it as a class A drug will maintain the status quo. I.e. Anyone who wants it can get it pretty easily, but it's still a bit underground so you're not exposed to it during the daytime for example. The world ticks over, everyone is happy (especially those on pills ). By keeping the same as it has always been, you can probably avoid a change in the mentality of people. If ecstasy was legalised, then would people take it more often? During the day? Would people become dependent on ecstasy just to get them through the day? It's unlikely but I suppose it's a possibility. What are the effects of taking 10 pills every day for 20-30 years? I doubt anyone knows. To choose an obvious example, people used to think smoking was a clever thing to do. But we now know that if you smoke every day for even a small amount of years, it gives you cancer and other nasty things. We don't know the effects of ecstasy, since it's only been around in popular culture for around 20 (?) years. Even then, most people take it at weekends only, and they probably 'grow out of it' as they get older and have more responsibilities. We can't possibly know the risks, and the government has to make a decision based on the idea that it has a duty to keep the nation in good health. If you don't believe in that, vote for a different government
  17. Yeah, it is bullshit but I don't think that's a reason to be pissed off at the Portuguese guy (other than because he calls you names). It's over-zealous idiots (usually white, middle class, if we're going to stereotype) trying too hard not to be racist, but failing completely by making a distinction between people of different races. Like your boss in this case. See also: people calling Christmas stupid stuff like 'Winterval', calling children racists for not liking food etc. It's all just the same thing and I don't really think it's anything to do with black people not liking white people and vice versa. These days, people fear racism more than they fear people of different races... EDIT: Which is basically what Snappel has said. EDIT 2: @Charel
  18. Give us a spin, eh? It's just like in South Park!
  19. I'm not racist, but I literally cannot step out of my house for fear of brown people burning flags. Also: DEY TUK OUR JERBS. Also, I was being sarcastic. These topics are stupid. I am a bit surprised that the Telegraph would run such a story (it wouldn't look a column-inch out of place in the Daily Mail), but that's no reason for everyone to vent their racist little spleens on an internet forum. I think Joe Elding summed it up.
  20. Yeah, it's strange that - getting a life-ending head injury even with a massive MX helmet on. The accident didn't look that harsh on his head, either. Mind you, I thought I read that he had a 'probable' spinal injury as well. Maybe they didn't get around to looking because his head injury was more life threatening. Either way it doesn't really matter. RIP

    Help! Fuel Leak

I sorted it. Turns out it was pissing petrol out of the fuel filter. Not at the join with the fuel lines or anything, just corrosion straight through the metal barrel of the filter But I went and got a new fuel filter and it seems OK. I was fearing the worst, but it only ended up costing me £11.99!

    Help! Fuel Leak

Can anyone help me with a little problem I've been having. Basically my car has been smelling a lot of petrol recently but I didn't think anything of it. Anyway, I had a look underneath and I'm leaking fuel onto the ground. It's definitely petrol (not oil or anything else - I was parked on snow so I grabbed a handful of the snow under the drip) and it's coming from under the middle of the car, just in front of the rear wheels. I assume this is where the fuel tank is? You can see that the drip is coming from higher up - you can see fuel dripping around the sides of (what I assume is) the tank. I left the car parked up for about 2 weeks, and it hadn't lost a massive amount of fuel in that time (I can't remember when I last filled it up, but after the 2 weeks there was at least half a tank. But now I've been driving round a little bit, (30 miles or so), I've lost almost half a tank - Which makes me think it's something slightly more complicated than simply a hole in the bottom/side of the tank. Maybe a leaking pipeline at the top of the tank that only leaks when the engine is running?! I don't really know the anatomy of my car. As far as the car goes, it's running OK, but losing fuel at a very noticeable rate. It's a VW Polo 6n (98, R Reg) with a 1.6 petrol engine (I don't *think* this model is an injection engine?). I'm going to try and have a look later on today. I have a Haynes manual but I don't know if that will be too much use when I don't really know what I'm looking for. So what sort of things should I be looking for, how should I go about working out what's wrong/maybe fix it? Please help, I don't want to get raped by taking it to a garage!
  24. I was thinking about this the other day. It seems stupid at first but when you think about, it makes sense. We have some gritter trucks but they only ever get used for a couple of days a year (sometimes not at all?), so it doesn't make sense to invest in loads and loads of trucks. When it snows properly (about once every 10 years, if that), there aren't enough gritter trucks, or the staff to drive them. Plus because they don't grit every day (like they must do in Canada), the gritter workers probably aren't used to it and therefore it takes them longer to do the roads. Meaning half the roads don't get gritted, but they're still fairly busy with drivers, so we end up with icy roads. British drivers rarely have to drive on ice, so they don't know about how to control a car when it slides. Therefore everyone is really cautious and slow, except for wreckless people who are the ones crashing. Most people here drive to work. If they can't make it by car for the reasons above, there aren't too many alternatives. Then add in the novelty factor, and you can see why people would rather stay at home and build snowmen Apparently it's not just Britain that has this problem - parts of France/Germany have the same level of bunking off when it snows.
  25. That option to 'automatically download codecs' basically doesn't work. You could download a codec pack like the K-lite one (if that's still around?!) which should sort it all out, but like Mike says, VLC seems like a much better option to me. www.videolan.org/vlc
