Forks crack/snap at break mounts and steerer/crown points because they are high stress areas. Just because they break there in a normal fork doesn't mean that they won't break somewhere else if you start drilling holes in them!
-
Don't think it will, I would go as far as to say that 99% of bike manufacturers know that there are better ways to lose weight from a frame than simply drilling holes in it. With respect to Hoffman's forks, that's just asking for trouble. Forks are one of the most commonly broken components, would you want to turn yours into a glorified aero bar?! An even stranger thing to do considering he's riding a hoffman frame, not really known for being exactly lightweight.
-
Was more thinking why have such a heavy BB, i know drilling holes is free; but a Ti BB will save more weight and will definitely cost less than a new frame when this dies in the not too distant future.

I very much doubt they cut by hand, the smooth surface only gets worn off as the pads bed in anyway. Maybe Trialtech don't want to sell a product that relies you to stick the pad material correctly into backings that they don't manufacture or have any control over? Nobody wanting plastic backings is a little bit a general sweeping statement don't you think? You might not, but i'm sure that there are plenty of people that run these pads as they are sold and perfectly happy with them.

I always thought organics worked better from lower temperatures, weren't so good with dealing with heat build up and wore out relatively. And sintered had better heat and wear characteristics, dealt with crappy conditions better; but can have a habit of squealing when wet. For DH i'd always go with sintered, especially in this country with our fantastic weather.

Why would a hydroformed frame weigh more than a butted regular tube set? You do realise what hydroforming is right? It's not just for making fancy shapes.. Presactly, even if it ends up the same weight as frames on the market, it might be stronger and last longer (a whole season?!). Weight certainly isn't the most important factor in a frame that's for sure, but when it's a top end comp frame it's certainly a factor and it's easy to make comparisons. Think that's why it comes up so frequently, especially when frame geos are so similar and longevity of a frame is affected by so many different factors.

Looks good Joe, like i said yesterday, really like the colour

Can speculate that it might not be lighter than a Rockman or a Limey 4, but i bet it'll be lighter than 99% of the other frames Monty have come out with!
-
Yeah so as the carbon version sells for about 1500 quid for a frameset this will probably be about £900..
-
Cheers for the comments lads Yeah, i was going to get some TryAlls or some Monty pro Race but i was on a bit a of a budget as it's my first mod and wasn't sure if i'd get on with it. All the Ti bits /Carbon bars/Cranks and stem came off my stock and the rest of the bike was done on a budget of £350. The pair was only £30 so couldn't really justify the extra dollar on the Monty or TryAll tyres. They will most likely get swapped out for another set when I've got the money, FOr now i'll take a Stanley knife to them and get trimming. Pretty much it, just don't feel like a 4 finger is needed. That and the forks not having a booster just causes the forks to flex a fair bit with a 4 finger lever.

After finding trials was getting a bit stale I thought i'd try switching to mod to try and freshen things up a bit, this is what I ended up with: Spec for those that are interested: Breath Yes 20" Frame Breath forks Brother CNC Stem TryAll carbon handlebars Zhi CNC cranks Neon Ti BB Echo SL Ti freewheel Wellgo MG-1 Ti pedals TryAll K2 rims, DB spokes, Breath hubs Maxxis Creepy Crawler tyres Magura 05 HS33, Stan Ti fittings, Coust pads Ti bolts pretty much everywhere. Haven't got a clue what it weighs, now I need it to stop raining so I can go ride!

Interesting appears that the drive side "chainstay" and front end are one piece and the non-drive side is welded to it. Shame they still haven't done anything interesting with the dropouts, the flat plate they always use just looks cheap and doesn't really fit with the top end of the market they seem to want to compete in. WIll they have a silly high price like most of their previous products.

Alex, the link takes you where? And what day is it today?
-
Yeah I wasn't overly enthralled by it either. If you like tailwhip drops then you'll love it.

The ONLY thing thing that wasn't right with that video was we need more engine noise! Don't know why, i just find being able to really hear how the engine is being worked really adds to any motorsport video. You appear to have a lot of fun competing, certainly comes across that way in your posts. They do look like fun events, a little sketchy, but fun!

You are using a relatively low short stem on a reasonably high BB bike. Something around the 150x30 range seems to be the norm for a frame like that, you're not exactly short either so i don't think the two combined will help if you feel uncomfortable on the bike. The sketchiness just appears to be from pushing yourself to go high and further without really nailing the technique and getting the smaller stuff dialled before moving up in scale. I'd just get out more, ride as much as you can, just ride smaller stuff and try to get a bit more comfortable and controlled.

Don't even try and mug us off with that one Rainbird!

Brother stem clicking noise + bar slipping (same clamp as the Try All

Mine are tightened to the point where you can only just see light through the "gap". But everything is solid and without a hint of movement... -
Brother stem clicking noise + bar slipping (same clamp as the Try All

I've got the brother stem and some TryAll carbon bars and have no problems running the two together, had them like that for 7 months or so. The clamps moving does sound odd, the clamps i have fit fairly snugly on the stem, not enough to make them rock with a handlebar in place and tightened up. Personally I don't use a torque wrench, no stress marks are showing on the stem or clamps so happy days. -
Dunno who has it atm, I know Joe Seddon and James Davies had it for a fair while. Sure they will be bringing out some new stuff this year.

This suprises me, as three of us that ride locally have Breath frames and I would say the welds appear as good as any other trials frame really. Not had any issues at all, so i've just gone and bought a 20" frame too.

Tape it up as suggesteed, make sure you either google some exercises to build up the muscles in your hands and wrists; or speak to your GP and get a physio referral if you're still getting issues.

Spot looks awesome! Tune too, Sneaker Pimps Chainspotting it was in, wasn't it?
