The Car Thread

I'm still planning on replacing the Cupra with a Cupra R but I'm also having naughty thoughts about Audi S3's.

I was thinking about getting a crap car that I don't care about so I will be happier chucking a filthy bike into the boot but I'm not sure I want to 'downgrade' that much :P

Purely as another potential source of vehicles, yeah. Otherwise it's largely just slammed dubs on shiny wheels, but for parts/cars for sale it's probably worth the minute or two to sign up (Y)

In case you can't be dealing with that, however, here's the ad for that one (ignore original pic having private plate on):

2005 LCR in Artic Grey (silver)
BAM 225 engine code
96,000 miles
6 months MOT
3 months tax
FSH
2 keys

Cupra R Interior
Climate Control
CD player
Electric folding mirrors
Electric windows all round
6 Speed manual
Alarm/immobiliser
Brembo brakes
Pipercross Viper induction kit

All in all a very nice, well maintained LCR in great condition!

£4,000

Based in Manchester M30 postcode.

I can be contacted via PM or text/call at any time on 07794817575.

Followed by the price drop to £3,795.

May be worth a cheeky offer, looks tidy and the history is pleasant if the ad is accurate. Worth having a chat about belts etc as usual mind.

Yeah, the E38 classifieds are pretty good, although you have to post a few times to be able to see them.

Does anyone on here have any experience/knowledge about the 1.8td Peugeot engines? or know what they came in? I'm tempted to buy a Rover 400 estate (R8 shape) with one as a daily driver as I've always kind of liked them (as far as cars that are regularly sub £500 go anyway), but only just realised they did a diesel, and best of all it's an old-school all mechanical XUD, which assuming the 1.8's not drastically worse than the 1.9 are pretty decent lumps in a rugged, reliably kind of way. I need something as a workhorse sometime soon as it'll make working on the Scirocco a lot easier, save me money in fuel and I've got a big road-trip planned for the summer which I don't want to take the Scirocco on. Plus I'm kind of missing the practicality of an estate.

There's lots of nice things for sale, but all being sold by dreamers with absolutely mental price tags on everything!

So that guy is now selling 2 nearly identical LCR's and has even got mixed up himself and used the one with the private plate for both adverts on Edition38 :P

They are both listed on Edition38 and ebay...

Yup, my old man had one in a 405 estate and a 205 and his old boss had one in a 405 saloon, as long as you keep the belts in order it should run and run!

His boss got rid of the saloon at around 165k still running and he sold his estate after around 145k and that's still knocking about locally. The 205 blew it's head at about 95k as he was getting round to doing the cambelt but he sold that to another local lad who sorted it and is now back in action.

Looks like a 200tdi? If it is was there anything in particular about the conversion someone doing it should know about? One of the guys at work's just bought this:

And this to go in it:

I'm looking forward to seeing it done. I do love a good landy, I wish I had an excuse to own one.

I'm feeling the want for something non-german as a daily, I quite like the idea of being completley backwards and having a german car as the fun/weekend car and a british daily driver :D I'm currently thinking some sort of 60's estate with LPG would be awesome. (Loads of LPG stations around this area)

Not really, they're very straightforward. Just put a 2a box behind it 'cos they're the strongest and don't buy a britpart clutch like i did. Mounting the intercooler takes some thought, but to be honest you don't really need to run one. Oh and use a Defender radiator! Series ones are all, without fail, shit.

They're rattly as hell but more than powerful enough and mine returns 40-45mpg :)

And yeah Dan, it's a 200tdi. 2.5 litre diesel with a 300tdi turbo, so 15psi over the 11 from the standard turbo. Plans for this year mostly consist of making it "safe" with a cage, buckets and harnesses and disc brakes if i can afford them, followed by engine mods. No-one's every really done anything more than turn up the boost/ fuelling with a 200tdi so i'm keen to look into bolting a bigger turbo on and having a fiddle internally. If i can see 150bhp + from it i'd be pretty happy.
